Ukiyo-e Series

In 2010, I received a grant to work with other high school teachers at the Art Institute of Chicago. Every day, I visited the museum and became intensely interested in the Japanese print collection. The beautiful two-dimensional designs impressed me and I wondered why none of them incorporated use of three-dimensional techniques especially in the kimonos. When asked to create a series of paintings for a show at the Schack Art Center in 2013, I focused on close ups to capture the three-dimensional flow of the kimonos.
